Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) Movie Explanation | Full Story & Ending Explained Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) is a supernatural psychological thriller about Laura Mars, a successful New York fashion photographer known for her controversial pictures featuring stylized violence. Her life takes a terrifying turn when she begins experiencing visions of murders through the eyes of an unknown killer. As the killings begin to resemble her own photographs, Laura becomes involved in a police investigation that brings danger closer to her. Laura's disturbing visions start with the murder of her photo editor, Doris Spenser. Soon afterward, she witnesses another killing in a vision and discovers that the victim is a woman connected to her former husband, Michael Reisler. Detective John Neville investigates the murders and initially suspects Laura because of the similarities between her photographs and the actual crime scenes. However, he gradually realizes that Laura may be seeing the murders as they happen through the killer's perspective. As more people from Laura's professional and personal life are murdered, she grows increasingly frightened. Her models Lulu and Michele become victims, and her agent Donald Phelps is also killed. Laura develops a romantic relationship with Detective Neville, who tries to protect her while investigating the crimes. The police begin to suspect Laura's driver, Tommy Ludlow, who has a criminal past, as well as her former husband, Michael. When photographs connected to the murders are discovered in Tommy's apartment, he runs from the police and is shot during a pursuit. The authorities believe the killer has been identified and the case is over. However, Laura soon experiences another vision in which Michael is murdered. When Neville arrives at her apartment, he tells her that Tommy was responsible for the killings. But Laura notices inconsistencies in his explanation and realizes that Neville is describing the crimes as if he personally committed them. The shocking truth is that Detective John Neville is the killer. He suffers from dissociative identity disorder, with one personality responsible for the murders and another unaware of the violence. Neville's conflicting personalities struggle for control as he confronts Laura. His violent personality attempts to kill her, but his other personality regains control and asks Laura to shoot him. Laura is devastated but ultimately pulls the trigger, killing Neville and ending the murders. She then contacts the police, bringing the terrifying experience to a close.
