Description

After 2,000 Years, GROK AI Just Solved the Herculaneum Scrolls On June 25th, 2026, a team of researchers announced that they had read a book that had not been opened in almost two thousand years. Not a page of it. Not a few scattered words. The whole thing. About a metre and a half of continuous Greek text, around twenty columns, read from the outside to the very centre. The book is a scroll catalogued as PHerc. 1667. In 79 AD it was cooked inside a Roman villa by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It came out of the ground in the eighteenth century as a black lump that looked like a burnt log. People tried to open it by hand, and they destroyed its outer layers doing it. By the 1980s, it had been written off as unreadable.Nobody unrolled it this time. Nobody touched it at all. It was read with X-rays, mathematics and artificial intelligence, and it turned out to contain a work of philosophy that no one alive had ever seen.
