Why Does This 800-Year-Old Book Contain the Devil?

The Codex Gigas, often called the Devil’s Bible, is one of the largest surviving medieval manuscripts. Created in medieval Bohemia, it contains a complete Bible, historical and medical texts, and one unforgettable image: a full-page portrait of the Devil. Legend claims a condemned monk wrote the enormous book in a single night after making a bargain with the Devil—but the real history is even stranger. The Keeper examines the legend, the manuscript, and the mystery behind one of the most remarkable books of the Middle Ages.
