Description

Did AI really hack the PS5? After the PS5 jailbreak and the Overdrive store went viral, the internet said "someone used AI to hack PS5 security in weeks." I checked the evidence. This is a Wiredeep Fact-Check. I traced the claim back to the first post, read the jailbreak's own credits and went through the coverage, outlet by outlet. One part of the story is true. One part has no evidence at all. And there is a real AI story here, just not the one that went viral. Chapters 0:00 The claim 0:38 What actually happened 1:51 Where "AI did it" came from 3:05 The evidence, graded 4:20 The AI story that did happen 5:42 What AI actually changed 6:53 What it means for Sony, and for you 7:41 The honest answer The verdict, graded ✅ Confirmed: Relapse, a public PS5 / PS5 Pro jailbreak, went public on September 29, 2026. Sony's system updates of September 16 and October 1 include security fixes; Relapse doesn't work on updated consoles. Overdrive, an app for already-jailbroken consoles that imitated the PlayStation Store, listed more than 1,600 PS4 and PS5 games and went offline on October 14. ⚠️ Single source: that Sony's lawyers sent a cease and desist letter (one post on X, worded "reportedly"; not confirmed by Sony or the developers). That Overdrive was built with Anthropic's Claude (one outlet, no source given). That the Xbox Cloud Gaming app for jailbroken PS5s was built partly with Claude's help (Clubic). ❌ No evidence: that AI cracked the PS5, that it took "weeks", that it was "hardware" reverse engineering (Relapse is a software chain: a browser bug, then a kernel bug), and that it was the "first case" of anything. What did happen: on September 15, 2026, a hacker known as Jordy reported a PS5 hypervisor bug to Sony through its HackerOne bug bounty, and said he found it with AI; he also said a third person found the same bug with AI hours later. Veteran PlayStation hacker TheFlow, who had asked people to wait, stepped away from his PS5 Linux work the same day. The Relapse credits list a "Jordy" for the browser exploit; no source confirms it's the same person, and nobody has said AI found the Relapse bugs. This video does not show or link how to jailbreak a console or where to get games. Jailbreaking goes against PlayStation's terms and can cost you your account; unofficial stores carry malware risk; downloading games you didn't pay for can be copyright infringement depending on where you live.
