Description
A new NTSB update is giving us our clearest look yet at the final seconds before the Amazon Prime Boeing 767 overran Runway 30 at Miami International Airport. Preliminary flight-data-recorder information shows the aircraft touched down at 158 knots groundspeed, well beyond the normal touchdown zone, with braking delayed for several critical seconds and no recorded deployment of either the speedbrakes or thrust reversers.
In this video, I break down the aircraft’s speed, flap limitations, touchdown location, remaining runway, delayed braking, attempted late go-around, and the unstable approach that preceded the accident. Using the NTSB timeline alongside ADS-B data, we can reconstruct how the 767 arrived high and fast, touched down with roughly 4,000 feet of runway remaining, and continued toward the runway end while still traveling at very high speed.
We’ll also look at why the lack of speedbrake deployment mattered, how the aircraft’s flap configuration may have been limited by its excessive speed, and whether its extreme descent rate could have produced EGPWS “SINK RATE” or “PULL UP” warnings during the final approach.
This remains an active investigation, and important evidence—including the cockpit voice recorder transcript—has not yet been released. The analysis in this video distinguishes between confirmed NTSB information and conclusions drawn from the available ADS-B data.
