Description

Why are Chun-Li's thighs so big? Capcom actually explained it. Chun-Li from Street Fighter was the first playable woman in a fighting game, and her legs have a real backstory: - Street Fighter 2 (1991): she wore baggy pants until the very end of development. Her artist, Akira "Akiman" Yasuda, said she "didn't look right" and switched her sprites to tights (Capcom developer column). - Producer Yoshiki Okamoto wanted to give her a shorter health bar "because women are not as strong". Designer Akira Nishitani disagreed, and her bar stayed the same length (Polygon, Street Fighter 2: An Oral History, 2014). - Both of her special moves, Lightning Legs and the Spinning Bird Kick, were kicks. - Composer Yoko Shimomura asked Akiman why Chun-Li's thighs were so big. He shouted: "I can't believe you don't understand the appeal" (Polygon, 2014). - Street Fighter 3: producer Yoshinori Ono said her legs "got thicker and thicker" as the artists coloured her in. Street Fighter 4: he said her designer is "kind of into thick girls" (Electronic Gaming Monthly, Jan 2008). - Street Fighter movie (2026): Callina Liang, the new Chun-Li, ate 12 eggs a day and her thighs grew 6.5 cm each (Empire, via IGN / Kotaku). Director Kitao Sakurai said her stunt doubles wore butt pads to match her legs (Kotaku, 10 Sep 2026). In cinemas 16 October. Music: Chun-Li's Theme (Street Fighter II, Capcom). Footage: Capcom (Street Fighter 2, 3: 3rd Strike, 4, 6) and Paramount Pictures (Street Fighter, 2026), used for commentary.
