Description
If your house has quietly stopped asking you to get up: https://twohousesbook.com
The book walks a Japanese house room by room, the step at the door, the floor you sit on, the closet the futon goes back into, with a ten-room audit for yours and two questions at the end of every chapter.
543 pages, 96 chapters, every claim sourced. $47 early-bird, 30-day refund.
I grew up in a Japanese house. I've now lived in America longer than I lived in Japan.
Everyone says staying strong after sixty comes down to exercise, or genes. The old people in Okinawa's villages didn't go to a gym, and when daily life there changed, their lead was gone within a generation. Genes don't change that fast. Days do, and a house shapes how many times a day you have to get up.
This video goes through eleven ordinary things in an American house that take the getting up out of your day, from the sofa you sink into to the chair that stands you up, each with what a Japanese house has instead and one change you can make this week. At the end, I tell you what I counted at my mother's table when I was nine.
In fairness to America, the floor is hard on knees. If yours are bad, the American chair is the right furniture, and I'd keep it.
If you try the floor test, do it barefoot on a soft rug, next to a sturdy chair, with someone home. Don't do it alone if you've had a hip or knee replaced, fallen this year, or get dizzy when you stand up.
If you make it to the end, leave one word in the comments: done. And tell me your score on the floor test, out of ten, and if you watched a parent's house slowly stop asking them to get up, tell me about that too.
