Description
If there's a drawer you'd never want your kids to open first: https://twohousesbook.com
The book is the rest of what I couldn't fit here, including my mother's gift ledger, the kimono photograph with five lines of pencil on the back, and the two questions she asked every object before it left her house.
543 pages, 96 chapters, every claim sourced. $47 early-bird, 30-day refund.
I grew up in a Japanese house. I've now lived in America longer than I lived in Japan.
People assume Japanese parents sort their things early because they're tidier, more disciplined, or more at peace with the end. That isn't it. The job has a name, seizen seiri, and a notebook for it that costs about a dollar with the right questions already printed inside.
This walks through nine drawers in the order a Japanese parent clears them, from the one page your children actually need to the one thing that isn't in a drawer at all, and why each one makes the next one easier. At the end, two drawers in my mother's house, the one she emptied herself and the one she left full for me on purpose.
America does one part of this better. When nobody did the work, an estate sale company can empty a house in a weekend and send the neighborhood home with everything in it. It's a good backstop. It just can't tell anybody what any of it was.
If you make it to the end, leave one word in the comments: done. And tell me, what's the one drawer you'd want to clear yourself?
