Description

In 2017, the United States hit a brand new Canadian airliner with a duty of nearly 300%. Within weeks, the company that built it handed control to a rival. In 2026, the same plane won the biggest order ever placed for a Canadian made airliner, and now it may be about to grow. This is the real story of the Bombardier C Series, the jet built at Mirabel, Quebec, that became the Airbus A220: the first flight over Quebec farmland, the billion dollar rescue, the trade war with Boeing, the 4 to 0 vote, the airport nobody came to, and the 150 jet order signed in front of the Prime Minister. Then we look at the shape that could come after the tube: Bombardier's EcoJet blended wing research, the Canadian part inside a 250 seat flying wing, and an imagined Canadian airliner of the future. It is not a real aircraft or programme. Dates, figures, people and quotes about real companies and governments come from public sources, including Airbus, Bombardier, RTX / Pratt & Whitney Canada, the US Department of Commerce and the US International Trade Commission, and news reporting. Some figures are as reported in the press. Canada Invents is part of the same family as True North Invents. The engine side of this story is coming on True North Invents.
