Description

Over a hundred feet below the surface of Lake Huron, archaeologists have found something that shouldn't exist: an entire ancient hunting system, built by human hands, sitting exactly where it was left nine thousand years ago. In 2008, archaeologist John O'Shea picked up a strange pattern on sonar — two deliberate parallel stone lines on the lake floor. What his team has uncovered since is the most detailed evidence anywhere of how Paleoindian and Early Archaic hunters organized their lives around caribou migration, preserved by the one thing that should have destroyed it: water. In this video, we trace the story from that first 2008 discovery through the Drop 45 Drive Lane, the sixty-plus stone structures now documented across the Alpena-Amberley Ridge, the brutal cold-water diving conditions researchers work in every season, and the strange turn the investigation took when scientists began using AI-simulated caribou to predict where new sites might be hiding. 00:00 A World Waiting Nine Thousand Years 02:40 What Lake Huron Used to Be 04:24 None of This Was Supposed to Survive 06:08 The Drop 45 Drive Lane 08:08 Sixty Structures and Counting 10:10 Diving in the Dark 11:58 Hunting With Artificial Intelligence 14:26 A Search That Never Stopped 17:00 What the Water Saved ⸻ If you enjoy deep dives into hidden history, underwater archaeology, and discoveries that are still unfolding, subscribe for more investigations like this one. ⸻ #LakeHuron #HiddenHistory #UnderwaterArchaeology #GreatLakes #AncientHistory #Archaeology #HistoryDocumentary #ForgottenHistory
