Description
Photoshop is $22.99 a month. All of Adobe's apps together, $69.99. So I tried something: I gave an AI a free, open-source photo editor, let REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) take the finished app apart, and asked Claude to build me my own Photoshop. Layers, adjustment layers, masks, 27 blend modes, curves, levels, the clone stamp, the spot healing brush, free transform, filters and a full history panel. Running in a browser. For free. I also show how to install REA in the regular Claude desktop app in about a minute, and the one thing you need to know before you try this yourself.

⚠️ Don't sell what you rebuild. Adobe's General Terms (section 17) forbid reverse engineering, decompiling, or monitoring the inputs and outputs of their software in order to recreate it, and their names, logos and designs are protected. That's why this video uses an open-source app whose license allows it. Build for yourself, for learning and personal use. If you want to sell something, talk to a lawyer first. I'm not one.
What's real in this video: REA 6.4.0 was installed in the Claude desktop app (setup with a backup of the old config) and run on Pinta 3.1.2 (official signed installer from its GitHub page). The tools, adjustments, effects, parameters and the 64 MB limit shown on screen are REA's actual output. The analysis took about two minutes; Claude wrote the first working version of PixelForge in about sixteen more (about 2,500 lines of HTML, CSS and JavaScript). Pinta's blend mode list was out of REA's reach, so the 27 blend modes follow the public W3C Compositing and Blending spec. The demo is a real recording of the app driven by scripted mouse and keyboard input. Prices: US Adobe plans page, annual plan billed monthly, October 2026.
