The attack on Fort Detroit marked the beginning of a wave that swept across the British settlements and forts of the Great Lakes region. During the conflict known as Pontiac’s War, numerous tribes rose up against the British in an effort to drive soldiers and settlers from the region. Within a matter of weeks, they raided dozens of farms and villages, expelled hundreds of settlers, and captured nine British forts. This is how modern historiography tells the story of the siege of Fort Detroit and the beginning of Pontiac’s War.
