Could The Roman Empire Survive In A Quiet Place?

Could a Roman legion survive a Quiet Place monster invasion when its entire army runs on shouted orders? Five thousand men of Legio XII march into a forest valley in northern Gaul just as the sound-hunting creatures crash down from the sky, and Rome’s most disciplined fighting force learns that discipline is exactly what gets you killed. This NerdHistory survival scenario follows the legion chapter by chapter, with a survival tier at every stage, as it tries to stay an army in a world where any sound is a death sentence. Watch the testudo formation burst open against creatures that flip cars, a silent night watch undone by one sneeze, and a barefoot retreat through a stone gorge where a whisper at arm’s length is the only safe sound. Along the way we hold the scenario up against real Roman history, from Legio XII’s near-collapse against the Nervii at the Sabis in 57 BC to the hobnails, horns, and shouted commands that made Roman soldiers so loud. We also test the single melee kill the films allow: a blade through a Death Angel’s open head.
