Description

One character. One axe. A simple goal: chop down a tree and collect the wood. What could possibly go wrong? In this devlog, I use AI to build a complete survival gameplay loop in Godot - from an awkward axe grip and broken chopping animations to falling trees, collectible logs, and a working inventory. We use visual references to improve the results, adapt a Mixamo animation to our character, and turn an AI-generated UI concept into an interactive backpack with stackable items, drag-and-drop quick slots, and persistent storage. The biggest improvements came from iteration, better references, and giving AI agents smaller, clearly defined tasks. My brother (@CanItCode), and I are building a survival and exploration game from the ground up, with Steam as our goal. Subscribe to follow the progress—including the attempts that don’t go to plan.
