Description

#mice #pestcontrol #oldmexicanway 📖 every old way written down: https://oldmexicanway.com You know the sound. Two in the morning, something scratching inside the wall. Black grains behind the stove. A hole in the corner of the rice bag. That sound has never been in my wall. Forty years keeping a house, first my mother's and then my own, six children in hers, the back door open all day, and never one mouse. Not poison. Not a cat. One rule, and one walk every October. Today I take that walk with you, on camera, from the outside of the house to the inside. THE RULE A grown mouse goes through a hole the size of a ten-centavo coin. A young one goes through the width of a pencil. My mother walked the house every October with a pencil in her apron pocket. Anywhere the pencil fit, something went in that hole that same night. THE WALK, TEN STOPS 🏠 OUTSIDE 1️⃣ The line where the house meets the ground. Pencil in every crack. Mortar, with steel wool under the big ones. 2️⃣ Where the pipes and wires come in. The spigot, the gas line, the AC line, the cable hole. Steel wool packed tight FIRST, caulk over it. Never foam alone. 3️⃣ The vents and the weep holes. Quarter-inch hardware cloth behind the vents, copper mesh in the weep holes. The dryer vent is NEVER stuffed, it gets a flap that closes. 4️⃣ The doors. Daylight under the garage door means the corner seal. Daylight under the back door means a ten-dollar sweep. 5️⃣ The yard. Woodpile off the wall and off the ground. Dog food and bird seed in a metal can. Grass and ivy cut back a hand's width. The branch off the roof. The lid on the trash. 🕯️ INSIDE, with the candle 6️⃣ Under the kitchen sink. The busiest mouse door in any house. Candle along the pipes, steel wool, caulk. 7️⃣ Behind the stove and the refrigerator. The gas line and the ice line. And the grease film scrubbed. 8️⃣ The pantry. Beans, rice, flour, sugar, masa, cereal in glass with lids. Dog food in a metal can. The dog's bowl up at night. 9️⃣ The garage-to-house door sill, the water heater closet, behind the washer. 🔟 The sachets, honestly sized. Chile de árbol, cloves, bay, at the doors, never scattered. A smell is a wall to a comfortable mouse and a speed bump to a desperate one. The steel comes first. THE HONEST WORD If one is already inside: the wooden snap trap, peanut butter pressed into the trigger, trigger side to the wall, two or three per spot, gloves, checked every morning. Never glue boards. Never poison, it dies in your wall and poisons the owl and the neighbor's cat. Droppings get sprayed wet with bleach water first, never swept dry, gloves, bagged. A cat is a hunter, not a wall. If the steel is in and the traps are out and the mice keep coming, the door is somewhere you cannot reach: the professional, one time, not a subscription. Who profits: the bait station with the refills, the sticky trays, the man in the truck every month. A company paid monthly to manage your mice has no reason to close the hole under your sink. The hole is the subscription. That is not a failure of the business. That is the business. Tonight, do one: take a pencil and a flashlight, empty the cabinet under your kitchen sink, and put the pencil beside the pipes. If it goes in, you found the busiest door in your house. Where did the pencil go in, and what did your mother put in the hole? Tell me, and your county. I read every one. CHAPTERS 0:00 The sound in the wall 1:56 The rule: the width of a pencil 2:42 Stop 1.
