Description

I’ve spent most of my life around timber, cabins, wood heat, and Montana winters, and one thing I learned early is that firewood can be more dangerous than it looks. In this video, I’m sharing 10 firewood mistakes and hidden woodpile dangers I always check before bringing wood inside or putting it into a stove. Some problems are easy to spot, like treated lumber or mold, while others can hide under the pile, inside the chimney, or even in ashes that look completely cold. I’ll show you why I avoid mystery construction lumber, painted and glued wood, rodent-contaminated piles, unknown vines, wet firewood, badly stacked wood, unsafe ash disposal, and other mistakes that can create serious problems around a wood-heated home. These are simple habits, but some of them can help prevent smoke exposure, contaminated dust, chimney fires, carbon monoxide problems, and other dangerous situations. If useful old mountain knowledge like this is why you’re here, subscribe. I still have plenty of practical lessons to pass along from years spent around cabins, firewood, wilderness, and cold-weather living. And after you watch, tell me in the comments what you want to see next — winter firewood, cabin heating, wilderness shelter, old camp skills, or another lesson people used to know.
