Most folks put their bananas in the refrigerator to save them, and the peels go black in two days. The cold did not save them. It only made them look dead.
My name is Arlie Caudill. I was raised up a holler in Letcher County, Kentucky, and I learned how to keep fruit from going over by following my Mamaw down the root cellar steps. Here is how Ruby and I keep a bunch of bananas good in our house. We wash them in salt water and baking soda, dry the stem all the way, wrap it tight, and hang the bunch up. It costs about a dime a bunch and takes ten minutes the day you carry them home.
I will tell you plainly what it does and what it does not do. On the counter, this gets you about a week of good bananas, not a month. The month comes from the freezer, and I show you how to do that too. I also show you the mistake nearly every kitchen makes, which sits right beside the bananas. And there is Ruby's fried banana cake for the ones that get away from you.
Tell me in the comments where your bananas sit now, and what fruit sits right beside them. I read every one.
