The Entire Epic History Of Iceland In 20 Minutes

In 1241, seventy men killed Iceland's most celebrated writer. This is the history of Iceland from settlement to the 2008 crash. This survey covers the full arc of Iceland history, tracing how a society founded without a king managed centuries of isolation and political change. We examine the early Viking age settlement, the establishment of the Althing, and the brutal Sturlung civil war that ended the Commonwealth era. The narrative moves through plague, the Laki eruption, and the long struggle for Iceland independence, culminating in the Cod Wars and the 2008 financial crisis. By analyzing these specific turning points, we look at what forces actually held the country together across a millennium. *Chapters:* 0:00 A King's Order in an Icelandic Cellar 1:52 The Hidden Origins of the First Settlers 3:33 The All Thing: A Government Without a King 7:14 The Age of the Sturlungs: A Bloody Collapse 12:20 The Laki Eruption: A Catastrophe of Ash and Gas 16:06 The Birth of the Republic at Thingvellir ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Subscribe to Zain Files for more investigative history, and let me know in the comments which era you want to see explored next. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📚 *Sources & References* 1.
