The ENTIRE History of Yemen in 20 Minutes | Rome’s Fortunate Land Became a Battlefield

Yemen’s full history in one video, told through four places: Marib, Sanaa, Mocha and Aden. We follow the Marib Dam and its 548 CE inscription, Rome’s failed expedition under Aelius Gallus, Himyar and Najran, Aksum and Persia, the Zaydi imamate, Ottoman and British rule, coffee and the port of Mocha, Egypt’s chemical attacks, unification in 1990, and the war as of October 18, 2026. Contested points (Himyar’s religion, where Gallus actually reached, Mocha’s status) are marked as contested. Current-war figures are dated and attributed. Sources are in the pinned comment. Corrections welcome. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Subscribe to The Zain Files for more historical breakdowns, and let me know in the comments which era you want to see explored next. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ SOURCES - Strabo 16.4.22-24 (full text), Pliny, Dio: https://www.philipharland.com/Blog/?p=20749 - Gallus and Marib: https://flore.unifi.it/retrieve/1663a86e-5ab7-4797-b171-2b8940cffadc/Erga%20Logoi%202023.pdf ; https://cts.perseids.org/read/pdlrefwk/viaf88890045/003/perseus-eng1/G.gallus_aelius_1 ; https://archive.aramcoworld.com/issue/196302/according.to.strabo.htm - CIH 541 and Abraha: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIH_541 ; https://publications.dainst.org/journals/zaak/article/view/4186 - Dam breaches and repairs: https://structurae.net/en/structures/marib-dam - Himyar and Najran: https://bmcr.brynmawr.edu/?p=39547 ; https://moving-the-social.ub.rub.de/index.php/ER/article/download/9461/8998/7482 ; https://open.library.ubc.ca/cIRcle/collections/52387/items/1.0423223 - Persia in Yemen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasanian_Yemen ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aksumite%E2%80%93Persian_wars - Incense trade: https://www.metmuseum.org/essays/trade-between-arabia-and-the-empires-of-rome-and-asia ; https://madainproject.com/history_of_the_incense_trade_route - Imamate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rassid_dynasty - Aden and the Ottomans: https://al-bab.com/albab-orig/albab/bys/articles/hyweljones98.htm ; https://academic.oup.com/book/4355/chapter/146289603 - Egypt’s chemical weapons: https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/yemen.htm ; https://diplomaticourier.com/posts/the-tenuous-taboo-egypt-isis-and-chemical-weapons-in-the-middle-east ; https://www.nti.org/?p=26586 - Magic Carpet: https://israeled.org/operation-magic-carpet ; https://www.jpost.com/magazine/book-review-the-yemenite-tragedy-387121 - Unification: https://ucdp.uu.se/actor/353 - 2011-2017: https://english.ahram.org.eg/News/282738.aspx - War death toll: https://reliefweb.int/report/yemen/assessment-response-illicit-weapons-trafficking-gulf-aden-and-red-sea - 2026: https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/10/1168559 ; https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/10/1168589 ; https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/18/fighting-intensifies-across-yemen-as-humanitarian-crisis-deepens ; https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/5/yemen-forces-claim-to-seize-dhubab-sites-near-bab-al-mandeb-from-houthis ; https://english.alarabiya.net/News/middle-east/2026/10/15/yemen-govt-forces-say-houthis-targeted-marib-city-with-missiles ; https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-10427/ #Yemen #History #Documentary #MiddleEast #mocha
