Description

What part of the engine is this, and why doesn't it use normal hoses?! 🧐🚜 If you want to know how heavy-duty machinery makes its power, you are looking at the mechanical heart of the system: the fuel injection pump! This massive iron component takes fuel and pressurizes it to extreme, violent levels before shooting it directly into the engine cylinders! Because the fuel is under thousands of pounds of pressure, standard rubber hoses would instantly balloon up and explode! Instead, engineers have to use rigid, solid steel tubes. But how do you connect steel to iron without it leaking? The mechanic slides a tiny metal ring (called a ferrule or compression washer) over the tip of the tube, seats it into the pump, and hand-threads the nut. When they finally crank it down with a wrench, it physically crushes the tiny metal ring between the tube and the pump, creating a flawless, airtight metal-to-metal seal!
