Description

The kid had work boots that had already seen a shift and a savings passbook in his jacket, and a father out in the lot who thought the whole business was a mistake. The salesman at Yenko Chevrolet did not reach for a brochure. He reached for an order pad and started writing at the bottom, below where the printed boxes ran out, because what this kid wanted was not printed anywhere. General Motors capped its smaller cars at 400 cubic inches. Don Yenko never argued the rule and never asked to have it changed. He pulled brand new 396s out of brand new Camaros in his own service bay, then found Chevrolet's fleet ordering system and had the factory install 427s for him. We cover COPO 9737 and 9561, the pilot car running 11.94 at 114, and the detail that still stings. The forbidden 427 cost less than the big block policy allowed. Ford, Chevy or Mopar. Which dealer built the best car the factory refused to build? #YenkoCamaro #COPO #DonYenko #Camaro #DetroitIron
