Description
By 1969, a MACV-SOG recon man crossing into Laos had close to an even chance of not coming home from a single mission. Popular history blames a secret North Vietnamese unit built to hunt these teams and erase them. That unit never existed.
So what actually killed them? A road that had learned to defend itself. This is how North Vietnam turned the Ho Chi Minh Trail into a standing army: Group 559, the binh tram garrison system, the landing zone watchers posted in the treetops, and the reaction forces that could close on a handful of men from two directions at once. It also takes the myths apart, the 305th Sapper Command and the fabricated "Twenty-Fourth Independent Security Regiment" that traces straight back to an AI content farm, and draws the honest line between what the records prove and what the internet invented.
