Description

Stonehenge was built nearly 4,500 years ago by Neolithic communities capable of moving stones weighing more than 30 tons across considerable distances. Recent archaeological research is revealing who these builders were, where they came from and how they organized one of prehistory’s largest construction projects. DNA analysis traces their ancestry to Neolithic farmers who migrated to Britain from continental Europe, while excavations at nearby Durrington Walls reveal a vast temporary settlement linked to Stonehenge’s construction. Evidence from houses, animal remains and isotopes suggests that people gathered from across Britain, particularly during winter, to build and feast together. Archaeologist Mike Parker Pearson connects Stonehenge, Durrington Walls and Woodhenge to beliefs surrounding life, death and the midwinter solstice, offering new insight into the people behind the monument. #documentary #freedocumentary #stonehenge #archaeology #neolithic #prehistoricbritain #ancientbritain #durringtonwalls #megaliths #ancientdna #prehistory #britishhistory
