Male Hyenas Wait in Line for Years. The Patient Ones Become Fathers

💰 Support the channel: USDT TRC20: TBebXWjFeAJHfArVsJvt8N6Yv5rvn4GXP7 The spotted hyena is the most common large predator in Africa, and almost nobody thinks of it as a predator. Yet most of what a spotted hyena eats, it kills itself. The real fight starts after the kill: a clan can strip a zebra in under half an hour, and at that table every animal knows its place. The females run the clan, the males who father the cubs stand at the very bottom, and even a cub a few months old can push a grown male aside. This film is served in three courses. The kill: a bone-cracking skull, a hunting team, and two hyena teeth found north of the Arctic Circle. The table: what the famous giggle really means, how a mother decides her daughters' rank, why the youngest daughter outranks her sisters, and how hyenas count the voices of their enemies. And the bill: one of the hardest births of any mammal, cubs born with teeth that start fighting within hours, the richest milk of any land carnivore, and mothers who walk up to 50 miles for a meal. Along the way: a Yorkshire cave full of hyena bones in 1821, a giant hyena that probably left its tooth marks on Peking Man, the running hyena that reached Kansas and the Yukon, the Berkeley colony that taught Disney's animators, and an Ethiopian city that leaves holes in its walls for hyenas. 👍 Subscribe for a new wildlife documentary every week. #hyena #spottedhyena #hyenas #wildlife #wildlifedocumentary #animalfacts #naturedocumentary #africa #serengeti #masaimara #predators #animalbehavior #matriarchy #savanna #natureeducation
