Description
An American F-15E fighter jet, call sign "Dude 44," was shot down deep inside Iran's Zagros Mountains on April 2. What followed became one of the most complex combat rescue operations in U.S. military history.
Two crew members ejected and landed five miles apart. The pilot was pulled out within hours by an HH-60W helicopter, under fire from Iranian forces on the ground. The weapons officer spent 50 hours evading capture, wounded, with no food or water, before 155 aircraft and roughly 90 U.S. troops went in to bring him home — destroying two MC-130J aircraft rather than leave them behind.
