Description
#FortAncient #HopewellCulture #AncientOhio
The first problem is the name. The second is the people. The earthworks were built around two thousand years ago by the Hopewell culture, but centuries later, another group known as the Fort Ancient people occupied parts of the same landscape. Those names have become tangled together, and the result is a monument whose identity is almost designed to mislead you. The people who built the walls were not the people who gave their name to the later culture. And the walls themselves may never have been a fort at all. So why does one of North America's greatest ancient earthwork complexes carry a name that gets both of those things wrong?
Sources :
Contradiction to deliver: The name is wrong twice, once for "fort" and once for the culture.
