The Hijack Where Everything Was FAKE! | IC-410 | 2D Animation

This documentary tells the complete, fact-based story of the IC-410 hijacking of December 20, 1978 — one of the strangest events in Indian aviation history. Two young Youth Congress workers, Bholanath Pandey and Devendra Pandey, hijacked a Boeing 737 with 132 people on board using nothing but a toy pistol and a cricket ball wrapped in black tape, demanding the release of former PM Indira Gandhi from Tihar Jail. We trace the political turmoil that led to the hijacking, the 13-hour standoff at Varanasi's Babatpur airport, the surrender after an emotional radio appeal from a father to his son, and the astonishing aftermath — how, after Indira Gandhi's return to power in 1980, all charges against the hijackers were withdrawn, and both men went on to become sitting MLAs. Key Topics Covered in This Video: The political crisis of 1978 — Indira Gandhi's arrest and expulsion from Parliament Bholanath Pandey and Devendra Pandey's plan to hijack IC-410 How the hijackers boarded with a toy gun and fake bomb in 1978's lax airport security The 13-hour standoff at Varanasi's Babatpur airport The emotional surrender after a father's radio appeal to his son The shocking discovery that the "weapons" were a toy pistol and a cricket ball How all criminal charges were withdrawn after Congress returned to power in 1980 Both hijackers' subsequent political careers as MLAs and party officials Why This Story Matters: IC-410 is a story about how far political loyalty can be allowed to override the rule of law. Two men endangered 132 innocent lives with nothing more than toys, and instead of facing justice, were rewarded with political careers spanning decades. It raises uncomfortable but necessary questions about accountability in Indian politics — questions that remain just as relevant today as they were in 1978. This is history that deserves to be remembered precisely because it was so quietly forgotten.
