Description

Ransomware operators are actively exploiting a Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect authentication-bypass vulnerability that can allow unauthorized VPN connections under specific vulnerable configurations. The vulnerability, CVE-2026-0257, is rated High severity by Palo Alto Networks and now carries its highest suggested response urgency. The company says limited exploitation attempts have been observed against unpatched systems without mitigations. In today's Cybersecurity Today, we explain how the GlobalProtect authentication bypass works, why not every deployment is affected, and why simply patching the VPN may not be enough once attackers have already established access. The key question is: If attackers entered before you patched the vulnerability, what did they do after they got inside? For defenders, the response should go beyond patching: Check exposure. Upgrade affected components. Terminate suspicious access. Hunt historical VPN and authentication activity. Stay informed. Stay skeptical. And stay secure. #Cybersecurity, #Ransomware, #PaloAltoNetworks, #GlobalProtect, #VPN, #InfoSec, #CyberSecurityNews, #IncidentResponse, 00:00 GlobalProtect Under Ransomware Attack 00:38 What CVE-2026-0257 Actually Affects 01:43 How the VPN Authentication Bypass Works 02:47 What Happens After Initial Access 03:53 Why Patching May Not Be Enough 05:06 Vulnerability Management vs. Incident Response 06:21 Four Actions Defenders Should Take 07:44 Hunt Backward Through VPN Activity 08:43 When the Security Product Becomes the Attack Surface 09:18 Is Patching Enough?
