They Don't Want You to Know About Tartaria

Open a map from the 1700s and you'll find an empire covering a third of the earth — Tartaria. It filled the greatest maps ever drawn, appeared in the first encyclopedias, and then vanished from history so completely that almost no one alive has heard its name. How does an empire that size simply disappear? In this documentary we investigate the Tartaria mystery: the old maps that label a vast Eurasian empire with imperial heraldry, the near-identical grand domes and star forts standing on every continent, the "mud flood" buildings with ground floors buried below today's streets, and the dazzling World's Fair palaces raised and demolished in months. We lay out the alternative theory of a lost advanced old-world civilization erased by cataclysm and cover-up — and we give the skeptics their due, from Beaux-Arts revival architecture to raised street levels. Was Tartaria a real empire erased from history, or just an old word for an unknown land? You decide.
