Description

New cockpit voice recorder details from the NTSB paint an even more troubling picture of the fatal Boeing 767 runway overrun in Miami. In this video, I break down the unstable approach, repeated airspeed warnings, the late flap configuration, EGPWS alerts, the apparent failure to complete the before landing checklist, and the 11-second delay before the left main landing gear finally registered an on-ground condition. I also explain how that may have affected speedbrake and thrust reverser operation after touchdown. We’ll walk through what the evidence currently shows, what remains speculative, and why there were multiple opportunities for this approach to be abandoned long before the aircraft left the runway. I also compare the accident with previous runway-overrun cases involving unstable approaches, spoiler deployment, and thrust reverser logic. Five people on the ground lost their lives in this crash. As more information becomes available, the focus should remain on understanding exactly how the accident happened and what lessons can prevent something similar from happening again.
