Description

Not every handgun carried in bear country is actually suited for a close-range charge. This video runs seven popular pistols through a simple “worst-day” test: can the bullet penetrate deeply, can the shooter deliver several fast hits, and will the gun still function one-handed or at contact distance? The failures happen for different reasons—too little penetration, too few rounds, poor control, excessive size, or simply the wrong ammunition. The surprising winner is an all-steel .357 Magnum revolver loaded with a heavy, non-expanding flat-nose bullet. It isn’t the most powerful handgun on the list, but it balances penetration, controllability, reliability, and practical carry. Even then, the script’s own data gives bear spray the stronger overall record.
