Description

A Hutterite colony can sell tens of millions of dollars of grain, hogs and eggs in a year. Nobody who works there draws a wage. Nobody has a bank account. Nobody owns the house they sleep in. My name is Andreas Wurz. I keep the books on a colony in southern Alberta. In this video I explain where the money actually goes, what a person here is allowed to own after forty years of work, who decides, and what it costs to leave. And at the end, the one practice that has kept this arrangement alive for 498 years — when every other attempt at holding property in common collapsed inside a generation. If you find an error, put it in the comments and I will pin the correction. I would rather be right than look right. #Hutterite #Hutterites #colony #communalliving #Anabaptist #Alberta #Montana
