Description

📖 Get all 356 of Grandma's secrets here: https://earlenetatum.com There is a head of cabbage on my counter right now and it cost me two dollars, and tonight it feeds six people out of one black skillet. I ate cabbage at a table two streets over on Sunday and it came to me pale and wet, lying in its own water in the bottom of the bowl, and that house smelled of it for two days after. Most of you cook it that way. A pot, a cup of water, something over the top to soften it, and what comes out tastes like the water it sat in. Cabbage has no taste of its own. It takes the taste of whatever it meets first, and I have not put water on a cabbage in fifty years. Not a cup. Not a spoon. In this one I show you which head to carry home and how to press it with your thumb, how to cut it so it does not go to mush, the sausage that goes in cold and the fat that stays, when the salt goes on and why it is not at the start, and when the shrimp go in, because most of you have that backwards. And there is one thing she did the whole time it cooked that nobody does anymore. It is the reason her cabbage never once sat in water and the reason her house never smelled of it either. I saved it for the end. One two dollar head with a link of sausage and a half pound of shrimp feeds six with cornbread. Here is the skillet, in order: 0:00 The two dollar head and the bowl at that table 2:45 Which head to carry home and the bag to walk past 4:29 Why cabbage has no taste of its own 5:55 The knife, the heart, and two fingers wide 7:42 The sausage goes in cold and the fat stays 9:30 The fire, the three count, and two goes 11:31 When the salt goes on and why there is no sugar 12:55 The shrimp go in before the cabbage 14:38 How you know it is done in three ways 16:25 February of nineteen eighty six and the house that smelled for two days 18:27 The one thing she did the whole time it cooked 21:11 If you have no black skillet 21:49 The whole skillet again and your week 23:18 What is coming next There is a new recipe here every single day. Next time I am taking you out to the yard, and I am not cooking one thing. Every trick she had at that fire, and nobody at a cookout does them anymore.
