Description
At Al Asad Air Base in Iraq, a wall clock fell at the first impact and stopped at 1:34 a.m. on January 8, 2020.
By the Pentagon's count, 11 Iranian ballistic missiles struck the base, and no one was killed. That day, President Trump said there were no casualties. Then the count of brain injuries began: 34 on January 24, 50 four days later, 109 by February 10, all classified as mild — a number the Pentagon called a snapshot in time.
This short follows that count through CBS's 60 Minutes, Pentagon briefing transcripts, Central Command's statement and Gen. Kenneth McKenzie's Senate testimony.
In November 2021, the inspector general found that Central Command and its component commands had not tracked or reported potential concussive events, or the troops exposed to them, as required. That December, the Army announced 39 approved Purple Hearts.
The whole night and what followed — the warning, the evacuation, the bunkers between volleys and the reviews that came after — is in the main film (about 12 minutes): [main film link — added after upload]
