Description
In October 2001, on the way from Missouri to Afghanistan, the two pilots of the B-2 Spirit of America re-entered the target coordinates for most of their 16 JDAMs in flight. By the time they neared the coast of Pakistan, pilot Melvin Deaile later said, 70 percent of the targets they had carried from Whiteman had changed.
Following Deaile's and Brian Neal's own accounts, the historian Daniel Haulman and RAND's Benjamin Lambeth, this short follows the stale target list, Combat Track II and the thousands of keystrokes. Lambeth called the 44.3-hour sortie the longest air combat mission ever flown.
The whole flight — the five tankers, the changed targets, the call and the last four bombs — is in the main film (about 10 minutes): [main film link — added after upload]
