Why Spider-Man Had to Retire (For 4 Other Heroes)

In 1998, Spider-Man found himself in one of the strangest situations of his entire career. Framed for murder by Norman Osborn and hunted by police, bounty hunters, and even ordinary citizens, Peter Parker could no longer operate as Spider-Man. Rather than retire, Peter created four brand-new identities: Ricochet, Dusk, Hornet, and Prodigy. In this video, we take a look at the Spider-Man: Identity Crisis storyline, the Spider Hunt crossover, the reasons Marvel created these alternate identities, and how Norman Osborn nearly succeeded in destroying Spider-Man's reputation. We'll also discuss the legacy of the story, the Slingers spin-off series, and where these costumes have appeared since.
