Description

Britain lost India in 1776. By 1850, India owned the subcontinent — and it was still, legally, a company. Part 3, the finale. Bengal walked away from the East India Company in Part 1 and survived a Royal Navy blockade in Part 2. Now it has eighty years, a hundred thousand professional soldiers, and no war to fight. An army that size does not sit quietly. It gets used. Mysore. Awadh. The Marathas. Punjab in eleven weeks. A committee forms to decide whether the country should stop expanding at a reasonable size, and dissolves after its own chairman accepts a new province in the middle of a meeting. The mapmakers ask the army to slow down until the current edition is finished. The reply is one word long. And nobody rewrites the charter. That charter was drafted in 1600 for a business that sold pepper. It never says a company cannot have four million shareholders. So in 1847 a merchant in Awadh does the thing nobody thought to prohibit — he buys shares in the country he lives in. Then everyone else does. This is the timeline where enfranchisement arrives through securities law instead of revolution, where 1857 never happens because nobody is being cheated, and where Partition gets negotiated over three years by people who have to live beside the border — instead of drawn in five weeks by a man with a flight home. It ends in the present day, in a country that still has not changed its full legal name. ▶️ Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMv7tjoX63U ▶️ Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlebXGcN-rw 📜 Covered in this video: - Alexander Elliot, thirty-eight flag designs in thirty-eight years, and zero of them accepted - Tipu Sultan, Mysore, and subsidiary alliance — the real legal trick, now with nobody supervising it - Grinding down the Maratha Confederacy, 1803-1818, with French-trained artillery - The annexation of Punjab in eleven weeks - A country running on a corporate constitution written for a pepper business - The 1847 share purchase that turned 30,000 shareholders into 4 million voters - Why the 1857 mutiny never happens - What a negotiated Partition looks like, and why a fraction is still not none - India in 2026, under a name nobody got around to changing - And the flag. It takes 121 years. Real: subsidiary alliance, the annexation of Awadh and Punjab, the 1600 charter, the Anglo-Maratha wars, and the grievances behind 1857. Invented: one broken mast in 1776, and everything downstream of it.
