Description

On February 21, 1974, Maple Leafs legend Tim Horton died on the QEW near St. Catharines, leaving his wife Lori 49.5% of a 35-store doughnut chain. This video tells the full story: the Ice Capades skater who married him in 1952; the $12,000 Lori was paid for her first half of the company in 1966; the 2005 autopsy records from the crash; the 1975 sale to Ron Joyce for $1 million and a Cadillac Eldorado; her 1987 lawsuit and the 1993 verdict; and the 1997 book she co-wrote in his memory. It ends where the story stands now — a US$11.4 billion brand, and the first Hamilton store still pouring coffee.
