Description

What happens when you add collagen peptides and a squeeze of lemon to a glass of warm water after 60 — the exact recipe, what the human trials show, and the two claims in the title the evidence does not support yet. The glass, the way the people in the studies took it: about 8 oz of warm (not boiling) water, 2.5 to 5 grams of unflavored hydrolyzed collagen (roughly 1 to 2 level teaspoons — check your tub's scoop weight), stirred, with fresh lemon added LAST, drunk within the hour. Skin: Proksch and colleagues (University of Kiel, 2014) gave 114 women aged 45-65 either 2.5 g of collagen peptides or placebo for 8 weeks. Eye-wrinkle volume fell about 20%, with 65% more procollagen and 18% more elastin measured in the skin. Manufacturer-supported, and not in 75-year-olds. The counterweight: Myung and Park (American Journal of Medicine, 2025) pooled 23 trials and 1,474 people — the trials without industry funding, and the higher-quality trials, showed no significant benefit. That disagreement is not settled, and this video does not pretend it is. Glycine: collagen needs glycine at every third position. Meléndez-Hevia's 2009 model estimated the body falls short by about 10 g a day — a calculation, not a measurement. Vitamin C: the collagen-building enzymes stall without it. A tablespoon of lemon juice holds only about 6 mg; an orange, a kiwi or raw red pepper covers the day. Levine's NIH work (1996) shows the blood is close to full around 200 mg a day — and high-dose tablets were linked to about twice the kidney stones in Swedish men (Thomas, 2013). Tendon: in 20 people with Achilles pain, collagen sped recovery ONLY alongside daily calf exercises (Praet, 2019). Water inside the cell: healthy men aged 67-75 felt less thirsty when dehydrated (Phillips, NEJM 1984). In people averaging 80, more water held inside cells went with more strength and less frailty (Serra-Prat, 2019). Honest grading: no human trial shows collagen in water reactivates stem cells. "Calms inflammation" rests on glycine studies in animals and cells, not on people drinking this glass. This channel is education, not medical advice. Nothing here is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. If you have kidney disease, a fluid restriction, or take a water pill or any medicine affecting your salt balance, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before changing your water or protein intake. High-dose biotin products can distort some blood tests (FDA, 2017) — tell whoever orders yours.
