Description
I Inspected Hotel Rooms for 40 Years: The 13 Things I Finally Took Out of My Own Home After 60
13 Things That Quietly Stopped Fitting My Life After 60 (And the One Rule That Keeps Them Out)
=== DESCRIPTION ===
There are thirteen things in your house that stopped being useful years ago, and you still own every one. That isn't your fault.
I spent forty years deciding what didn't belong in other people's rooms. It took me until sixty to walk into my own, and here is exactly what I took out.
MY BOOK: The Spotless Method, the whole system written down in the order I'd actually do it.
spotlessmethod.com
I spent forty years in hotel housekeeping, and at the end I was the one who inspected the rooms. A hotel room holds what a stranger needs for one night and nothing else, and it gets reset every single morning. My own house was the one room I never inspected. This is my list, the thirteen things I actually took out after sixty, and I'll tell you honestly which ones took me years. Nothing here is a command, and I kept plenty, including my mother's dishes, which I use now. And nothing in this video involves lifting, a ladder, or your knees. Anything high or heavy gets handed down by somebody younger.
What's inside:
1. The good china cabinet
2. The box of cards
3. The gifts saved for a special day
4. The bathroom vanity
5. The linen closet
6. The spice cabinet
7. The clothes of the woman you used to be
8. The handbag shelf
9. The gadget drawer
10. The shelf you walk past
11. The pillows on the bed and the sofa
12. The drawer of cords and manuals
13. The room of maybes
Plus: the one small rule that keeps the house from filling right back up, one in, one out, used at the moment a shelf starts getting full again.
Which of the thirteen is in your house right now, and which one is the hard one for you? Tell me in the comments. Mine was my old navy blazer. I read every one.
New videos every week on keeping a lovely home after 60, gently, and in the right order.
