Description

On the night of December 8th, 1963, during an ice storm in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, a 26-year-old country veterinarian named Walter Prentiss was called to a remote farm at the head of Spring Creek. The farmer would only tell him two things on the phone: bring every bit of plaster you have, and come alone. In the barn, lying in the straw with a broken arm, was something nearly eight feet tall. And kneeling beside it, holding its hand, was the farmer's wife. She had known it since she was six years old. Walter set that arm by lantern light. Six weeks later, the cast came back to that barn, split clean in two. And between the two halves lay something that had been waiting twenty-eight years to be returned. This account was sent in by Walter's daughter, built from her father's veterinary case book and a letter he wrote in 2018 and never mailed.
