Description
July 1999. At nearly 16,000 feet above sea level. A 24-year-old Indian Army officer, wounded in the shoulder and legs, refuses to stop. Despite his injuries, he continues leading his men toward the enemy positions on Khalubar Ridge. This is the story of Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC.
This video tells the complete story of Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC — from a small village in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, to the officer who led his platoon during the fierce battle for Khalubar Ridge in the 1999 Kargil War.
We trace his journey from his childhood and education to the National Defence Academy, his commissioning into the 1/11 Gorkha Rifles, and finally to the freezing, high-altitude battlefield of Batalik, where his courage became part of Indian military history.
Key moments covered in this documentary:
Manoj Pandey's childhood, education, and NCC achievements in Uttar Pradesh
His famous SSB interview answer about wanting to win the Param Vir Chakra
Why the Batalik sector and Khalubar Ridge were strategically important during the Kargil War
The night assault on Khalubar Ridge on 3 July 1999
How Manoj Pandey led his platoon against enemy positions and destroyed two bunkers
How four enemy soldiers were killed during the action
How he continued leading his men despite suffering serious injuries
How he was ultimately fatally wounded while leading his men toward the objective
How his father, Gopichand Pandey, received the Param Vir Chakra on his behalf from President K. R. Narayanan
The memorials, institutions, books, films, and tributes that continue to preserve his legacy
Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey's story is more than a battle narrative. It is a story of courage, determination, leadership, and sacrifice under some of the harshest conditions of the Kargil War.
At just 24 years of age, he gave his life while leading his men in battle. His words, written years before Kargil, offer a glimpse into the determination with which he approached his military career.
