Description
India captured Haji Pir Pass in August 1965 after one of the most challenging mountain military operations of the Indo-Pakistani War. But just months later, the captured territory was returned under the Tashkent Agreement. Why did India give up a strategically important victory? This is the untold story of the Battle of Haji Pir Pass.
This documentary explores the Battle of Haji Pir Pass, a crucial but often overlooked chapter of the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War. When Pakistan launched Operation Gibraltar, sending infiltrators into Jammu and Kashmir to provoke an uprising, the Indian Army planned a bold counter-operation to capture Haji Pir Pass and disrupt the infiltration routes.
What followed was a demanding mountain campaign involving determined infantry units, difficult terrain, relentless rain, fierce resistance, and extraordinary acts of leadership and courage.
In this video, we explore:
The background of Operation Gibraltar and Pakistan's infiltration strategy
⛰️ Why Haji Pir Pass was strategically important in the 1965 war
🎖️ Brigadier Zorawar Chand Bakshi's leadership and critical battlefield decisions
🪖 Major Ranjit Singh Dayal's daring advance toward Haji Pir Pass
⚔️ The battles around Sank, Sar, Ledwali Gali, Bedori, and other strategic positions
🤝 The role of local Bakrawal communities in assisting Indian soldiers
🕊️ The Tashkent Agreement and the decision to return captured territory
📜 The sacrifice of soldiers whose stories deserve greater recognition
The Battle of Haji Pir was more than a military operation. It was a story of courage, endurance, leadership, and sacrifice in some of the most difficult mountain terrain. The capture of the pass became a significant achievement for the Indian Army, but the subsequent diplomatic decision to return it remains an important subject of historical and strategic debate.
At Spyverse Untold, our mission is to explore India's military history, intelligence operations, covert missions, and lesser-known historical events through cinematic documentary storytelling.
