Description
North Sentinel Island is one of the most isolated and mysterious places on Earth. Located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, it is home to the Sentinelese, an Indigenous community that has maintained an extremely isolated way of life for generations.
But why do the Sentinelese reject contact with the outside world?
In this documentary, we explore the history of North Sentinel Island, from the earliest recorded encounters and the British expedition of 1880 to later attempts at peaceful contact, the MV Primrose incident, the 2006 fishermen tragedy, and the controversial 2018 death of John Allen Chau.
We also look at why the Indian government restricts outsiders from approaching the island, and why protecting the Sentinelese from outside diseases and unwanted contact is considered so important.
This is the story of one of the world's most isolated communities—and the island that modern civilization has been forced to leave alone.
