Don’t You Wish He Was More Like Dolly? | Dolly Parton vs Donald Trump

What does it say about America that Dolly Parton could become beloved for her talent, humor, generosity, humility and kindness while our politics increasingly rewards ego, grievance and division? “Don’t You Wish He Was More Like Dolly?” a warm country-pop tribute and political commentary song that contrasts Dolly Parton’s legacy with Donald Trump’s approach to fame, power, faith and leadership. From her songwriting and business success to the Imagination Library, philanthropy and lifelong habit of lifting other people up, Dolly showed that enormous success doesn’t require making anyone else feel small. With acoustic guitar, pedal steel, fiddle and gospel harmonies, the song asks a simple question about Donald Trump, MAGA politics and American culture: wouldn’t it be wonderful if the qualities we admired in Dolly Parton—kindness, generosity, humor, humility and genuine concern for others—were qualities we demanded from the people who lead us?
