Description

Why Did God Ask Job, "Where Were You When I Laid the Foundation of the Earth?" Job lost his children, his wealth, and his health. Then, after thirty-five chapters of arguing, he finally got what he demanded: God spoke. But God didn't explain the suffering. He asked Job about the foundations of the earth. Was that an answer or a sidestep? This video follows the thread that runs through the entire Book of Job, from the heavenly scene in chapter 1 to the whirlwind in chapter 38. It shows that God did answer Job, but a different question than the one Job asked. In this video: Why Job's language in the middle chapters is the language of a courtroom The scene in heaven Job never knew about, and the limits God set on the accuser How "the sons of God" connects the opening of the book to creation The sea with doors and the accuser with a limit: a possible link The raven's cry, and why God's speech isn't a put-down Behemoth and Leviathan, and what Scripture actually says about them Why God said Job spoke rightly and his friends did not How Christians have read Job's longing for a mediator in light of Christ Essential Bible Passages The man and the loss Job 1:1-3 – Job, blameless and upright, in the land of Uz Job 1:13-22 – Four messengers; "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away" Job 2:7-10 – Sores, the ash heap, and his wife's words Job 2:11-13 – Three friends sit with him for seven days The scene in heaven Job 1:6-12 – The sons of God, the accuser, and the first limit Job 2:1-6 – The second round: "only spare his life" Job's courtroom language Job 9:33 – "There is no arbiter between us" Job 16:19 – "My witness is in heaven" Job 19:25 – "I know that my Redeemer lives" Job 31:35 – "Let the Almighty answer me" What Job already knew Job 9:9 – The Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades Job 26:7, 14 – The earth hung on nothing; "the outskirts of his ways" The whirlwind Job 38:1-3 – "Dress for action like a man" Job 38:4-7 – The foundation, the cornerstone, and the sons of God shouting for joy Job 38:8-11 – The sea with doors and a boundary Job 38:16-17, 19 – The springs of the sea, the gates of death, the dwelling of light Job 38:26 – Rain on land where no one lives Job 38:39-41 – The lion and the raven's young crying out to God Job 39 – Mountain goats, the wild donkey, the war horse Job 40:8 – "Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?" Job's response and the creatures Job 40:3-5 – "I lay my hand on my mouth" Job 40:15 – Behemoth, made "as I made you" Job 41:34 – Leviathan, "king over all the sons of pride" Job 42:2, 5 – "No purpose of yours can be thwarted"; "now my eye sees you" Job 42:7 – "You have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has" Job 42:10-17 – Restoration and four generations The New Testament connection 1 Timothy 2:5 – One mediator between God and men Colossians 1:16-17 – All things created through Him and held together in Him John 1:14 – The Word became flesh Matthew 27:45-46 – Darkness at noon; "My God, why have you forsaken me?" Matthew 28:2 – The stone rolled away Note on interpretation: The video clearly separates what Scripture says from tradition and interpretation. The link between the accuser's limit and the sea's boundary, the identification of Leviathan with Satan, and the Christ-centered reading of Job's longing are presented as readings, not explicit statements of the text. 💬 Question for you: What question have you been waiting for God to answer?
