THE BYZANTINE EMPEROR WHO WAS MURDERED IN HIS OWN PALACE #History #ByzantineEmpire #Constantinople

In 969 AD, Byzantine Emperor Nikephoros II Phokas was murdered inside the imperial palace. A celebrated military commander, Nikephoros had achieved major victories against the Byzantine Empire's enemies in the East. But while he was strengthening the empire abroad, a deadly conspiracy was forming inside Constantinople. His wife, Empress Theophano, became involved in a plot with the powerful general John Tzimiskes. The conspirators secretly entered the palace and killed the emperor while he slept. Tzimiskes then became Emperor of Byzantium. Nikephoros had defeated armies and conquered cities—but his final enemy came from inside his own palace. #ByzantineEmpire #ByzantineHistory #HistoricalFigures #EmperorMurder #PalaceIntrigue #AncientHistory #ByzantineEmperor #HistoryMysteries #MurderInHistory #HistoricalEvents #ByzantineCulture #EmperorAssassination #HistoryDocumentary #MedievalHistory #ByzantinePolitics #RoyalConspiracy #HistoryNerd #FascinatingHistory #ByzantineArt #PalaceLife #AncientCivilizations #HistoryBuff #LearnHistory #HistoryChannel
