Description

Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles have charged three people who ran or worked for groups paid to get people off the streets. According to prosecutors, one of them spent about a million dollars of homeless aid on a nightclub, and the total in the cases is about $12 million. A week earlier, Mayor Karen Bass stepped down from the board that oversees the city and county homeless agency, LAHSA. So who was supposed to be watching the money? In this video: The three cases: Home At Last, the "ghost participants" bribery case, and a fugitive with a prior fraud conviction A fourth man who agreed to plead guilty HUD's attempt to take LAHSA's federal funding, and the judge who blocked it Mayor Bass's missed board meetings, her exit, and the House hearing she did not attend What happens to LAHSA's $240 million a year in federal funds, weeks before the November 3 runoff Everyone charged is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Mayor Bass has not been accused of any wrongdoing, and none of the defendants is connected to her.
