NELSON MANDELA BAY, EASTERN CAPE – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has urged South Africans to vote for candidates based on their qualifications rather than political affiliation, arguing that government jobs and social grants should not be treated as the property of any political party.
Addressing EFF supporters, Malema said South Africans who meet the requirements for available jobs should be given opportunities regardless of whether they support the African National Congress (ANC), the EFF or another political organisation.
“Whether you are ANC, whether you are EFF, we don't care. As long as you are a South African, you have an ID, you qualify for the job, get the job because that job is yours,” Malema said.
Malema: SASSA Grants Are Not ANC Money
Malema also challenged the perception that social grants belong to the governing party, insisting that the money comes from public resources funded by taxpayers.
He argued that South Africans contribute to government revenue through taxes and purchases, and that social grants should therefore be understood as part of the country's public social support system rather than as money provided personally by a political party.
“It's not ANC money. It's your VAT, it's your tax, it's your money,” he said.
The EFF leader further maintained that the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) would continue operating regardless of which political party holds power, because social grants are a government responsibility and not the property of the ANC.
Malema also criticised the ANC over its campaign resources and alleged difficulties paying party workers, using the remarks to challenge the governing party's political credibility.
EFF Mobilises Supporters Ahead of November 4
Turning to the upcoming November 4 elections, Malema called on EFF supporters to intensify their campaign activities by visiting communities, streets, homes, factories and schools to encourage voter participation.
He urged supporters to arrive early at voting stations and make what he described as sober decisions when casting their ballots.
Malema also set his sights on the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, declaring that the EFF should emerge victorious and see its red flag flying over the municipal offices after the election.
He linked the party's ambitions to its recent celebrations at Nelson Mandela University, where supporters had seen the EFF's red flag flying, and encouraged them to carry that momentum into the electoral contest.
“Economic Freedom in Our Lifetime”
Malema concluded his message by calling on EFF supporters to remain active on the ground until election day, reinforcing the party's longstanding slogan, “Economic Freedom in Our Lifetime.”
His remarks focused on employment opportunities, social grants, public accountability and the EFF's ambition to strengthen its electoral position in Nelson Mandela Bay.
