Description
The chokermen faced one of the most dangerous jobs in Canada’s logging camps — yet their work is rarely remembered today.
From the 1940s through the 1970s, chokermen worked deep in Canada’s forests, attaching heavy steel choker cables around fallen timber so yarding crews could drag massive logs toward the landing. They worked close to moving cables, heavy loads, unstable ground, falling timber, and powerful logging machinery.
This documentary explores what life was really like for the men who worked the chokers — the physical demands, the constant pressure, the logging camp routine, and the dangers that came with every load.
We follow the work from the forest floor to the yarder, then into the wider world of Canadian timber camps and the communities that depended on the logging industry.
This is the story of a forgotten logging trade — and the workers who helped build Canada’s timber economy.
